Bread of Life EPA Staff

Harriett Wycoff, Executive Director

Harriett became Executive Director of Bread of Life EPA (BOLEPA) in November 2007.  Prior to accepting the position, Harriett was a volunteer for BOLEPA for more than four years.  Harriett is a perfect fit for Executive Director of an organization striving to improve the lives of families in East Palo Alto and the surrounding communities, having been a resident of East Palo Alto since birth.  Harriett has more than 20 years of experience working with human service agencies.  Harriett is the founder of Youth Shaping Our Future, established in 1994 with the sole purpose of breaking the cycle of teen pregnancy, school dropout and family poverty; starting with elementary aged girls and their families.  It is Harriett's passion, vision and integrity that will grow BOLEPA into the organization that will a beacon and model in East Palo Alto; an organization that will set the pace and standard for other agencies to strive to emulate.  

Roger Walker, Operations Director

Roger joined Bread of Life EPA in 2008 as Operations Director.  Born and raised in Rochester, NY, Roger is an Ordained Deacon of New Life Fellowship Church in Rochester, NY, and was Head Deacon prior to moving out to California.  While in NY, Roger worked for five years as Program Manager for the Center For Dispute Settlement in Rochester and
for the City of Rochester Criminal Court System.  Starting out as a volunteer at Bread of Life EPA serving more than 25 hours weekly, Roger felt his second calling as to becoming an integral part of the operations of the organization.  Roger's background fits perfectly with the new vision of Bread of Life EPA: "Each one reach one, each one teach one."

Bread of Life EPA Board

Arlin Torbett, PhD, Chairman

Arlin first started volunteering with Bread of Life EPA over 10 years ago, helping construct the kitchen in the current facility. "Like many of us who volunteer, we see the immediate benefit for those that are touched by Bread of Life EPA."  After weekly bread runs to Costco for a few years, Arlin decided to become even more active and joined the Board of Directors.  His first task on the Board was to work with the Executive Director to lay out a multi-year Strategic Plan.  Having done that and getting the Board to embrace the broader vision, Arlin was elected Chairman of the Board.  "I strongly believe in the mission of the Bread of Life EPA. We are providing some very unique services to feed the 'mind, body, and spirit' of those in need. Our Working Single Mom's program is an example--helping struggling Mom's and preventing more homeless families. Our feeding program is now serving over 2500 meal a month, helping solve the hunger problem in our community."  Arlin has Silicon Valley executive management experience in business development, marketing, research, and engineering  and holds a PhD in Management Science & Engineering from Stanford University, a MA in Mathematics from the University of Maryland, and a BS in Applied Mathematics from Georgia Tech.

Kevin Chen, PhD

Kevin first volunteered at Bread of Life EPA serving meals during Thanksgiving 2001 and later accepted an invitation to join the board in 2002.  Kevin enjoys helping out in various ways including coordinating young adult volunteers on Sunday afternoons, organizing a classical music fundraiser, and helping to update the website along with other volunteers.  Kevin currently works at Applied Materials in a business development role.

Ken Imatani

Ken Imatani is currently a board member for Bread of Life EPA has been involved with volunteer work for the past 6 years.  He organized the on-going BOL golf tournament and is actively involved in fund raising activities for BOL program expansion.  Ken currently works for Agilent Technologies in marketing for their life science and chemical instruments group.  Ken states, "I am excited that BOL is fulfilling its mission to break the cycle of poverty through its programs to feed the body, mind and soul of those in need.  BOL has a rising demand for its services and we can make a real contribution to our community through our support of the many BOL programs.   Let's help them be successful in fulfilling their wonderful vision."

Edward Talberth, MD

Ed is a retired Radiologist from Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Redwood City.  Ed joined the board in 2002 and notes that he has found that his "small role" on the leadership team at Bread of Life has been a very rewarding way to provide assistance to those in need in our local community.

Timothy C. Wright, JD

Tim is an attorney at law in Menlo Park, CA.  He joined the Board of Directors of Bread of Life EPA in 2004 and is currently the Secretary for the Board.  Tim is President of the San Mateo County Bar Association, Past President of the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County, Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Menlo Park, and a Deacon at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church.
